If you've been around Josh for more than five minutes then you know that he talks all the time. Non-stop commentary, opinions, directives, exclamations...all of them spilling out of his mouth at about a mile a minute. The chatter can be exasperating, some times frustrating. But if I take a minute to find a little perspective (the mom "count to 5 and breathe" moments), it is always hilarious. Here's some of my favorites:
When he wants to do something: "Please, I can (fill in the blank)...." (Standing on the cupboard-- "Please, I can fly, I can?" Sitting in the front seat of the car [with my keys no less...now how did he get those?] "Please, I can drive, I can?"
When he's trying to talk me into something: "Trust me on this." (Helping me make a cake, very sincerely saying, "I need to lick the spoon...trust me on this."
When he doesn't like the verdict: "That's terrible!" (No dessert unless you eat your dinner. Josh's instant response (while throwing down his spoon for emphasis), "That's terrible!")
When he wants to see a picture of himself: "Let me look at my old friend Josh."
When he's very angry with you: "You are never coming to my birthday." (And when he's really mad he goes through the list of people who aren't coming to his birthday.)
When he is trying to be brave: "Tough and Tall!" (It's his mantra. Next time you see him ask him: "How do you stand?" and he will answer "Tough and Tall!")
And my favorite: "Mama, I love you."
